Lori’s Gift
You came to visit me in my dream.
You gave me a gift made with your hand and your heart
made of weathered wood and bits of bright cloth
and words you wrote in pencil to make me laugh.
On the back you glued a transparent heart.
Underneath it you’d written
“I put this here for you. If you can pull it off,
wear it as a necklace around your neck.”
I thought you’d made me the gift
for my birthday,
when I realized it was your birthday.
And then I saw you and I was overjoyed.
We hugged and you were so slightly puzzled by my emotion.
You came to visit me in my dream
and I am grateful.
